Welcome to The Heart Failure Foundation (formerly the Artificial Heart Fund) was established in 1999 to help support research and use of mechanical devices to treat and reverse heart failure.

The founders were cardiac surgeons, cardiologists and individuals interested in the field of mechanical heart aids. Initial work conducted at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England led to the world's first implant of a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) as a long-term treatment for heart failure. Since then, more permanent implantations have been successfully performed.

It is hoped that with this success, that LVAD's will become a widely used treatment option for advanced heart failure.

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the outcome for heart failure patients, The Heart Failure Foundation supports numerous research projects including research into new types of mechanical pumps and those for implantation into children. A newly built bio-engineering laboratory will make this possible and allow scientists to further their work within many vital areas of technology.
